Baby Products I’d 100% Buy Again as a Mum

The baby products that genuinely made everyday life easier during the newborn stage and beyond

Before becoming a mum, I spent so much time trying to figure out what baby products were actually worth buying. Every list online seemed to include a hundred “must-haves,” and honestly, it all started to feel overwhelming pretty quickly.

After having Bailey though, I realised something really fast: there were actually very few products we barely touched, mainly because I was already pretty selective about not buying completely overhyped unnecessary items. Turns out sometimes over-researching does pay off, haha. But then there were also a handful of things we ended up using literally every single day.

Especially in those exhausting newborn months, anything that reduced stress, saved time, helped with sleep, or simply made the house feel calmer instantly became worth it to me.

So these are the baby products I’d personally buy again without even thinking twice.

Let’s start with our most used item: the bottle steriliser. This thing has been running basically every single day since Bailey was born. We personally use the Philips Avent Steriliser & Dryer and I genuinely love it. It just makes life easier, especially during the newborn stage when bottles, pump parts and dummies somehow pile up endlessly.

Next would definitely be our bottle warmer. This is probably something you won’t necessarily need if you’re exclusively breastfeeding, but because we did bottles and pumping from the beginning, ours got used constantly. And now that I’m no longer breastfeeding, I still use it around 4–6 times a day.

For bottles, we ended up trying both Pigeon and NUK glass bottles and honestly both were great. But because Bailey had oral ties, we decided to stick with the Pigeon bottles because she had the best latch with them. We’ve used them basically from day one and will definitely continue using them with bub number two.

I also wrote a full blog post comparing bottles and what ended up working best for us if you’re currently deciding which ones to buy- have read here.

One thing I personally wouldn’t class as absolutely necessary though was a nursing pillow. I did use ours a bit in the beginning, but because of Bailey’s oral ties we ended up having to switch to different feeding positions pretty quickly, so I never relied on it as much as I thought I would. Definitely nice to have, but not something I personally think you need to spend a fortune on.

One thing that was absolutely worth the investment for us though was a proper nursing chair. We went with an Il Tutto electric recliner and honestly used it so much more than I ever expected. Between newborn feeds, contact naps, middle of the night wake ups and just sitting there exhausted postpartum, that chair became one of the most used spots in our house. My husband actually ended up spending so much time in it too — sometimes even entire nights during rough sleep phases. Definitely one of those bigger purchases that ended up being completely worth it for us.

Another thing we’ve used every single day since Bailey was born is our sound machine. I bought a little portable Noodie for white noise and it’s honestly been one of those small things that became part of our daily routine without even thinking about it. We use it at home for naps and nighttime sleep, but also when we’re out and about. It also has a little night light built in, which comes in really handy more often than I expected.

Blackout curtains were something we didn’t think we’d need at first, so we didn’t buy them before Bailey arrived. We realised pretty quickly though that they were absolutely worth it. Such a game changer for naps, bedtime, and especially avoiding those brutal early morning wake ups once the sun comes up at 5am in Queensland.

Sleep sacks and swaddles were another everyday essential for us. We used the Love To Dream swaddles for the first few months and then transitioned into sleep sacks afterwards, first one arm out and then eventually both. That transition felt huge at the time, but they became such a strong sleep association for Bailey and something we’ve consistently used ever since.

One product that honestly saved us during summer was our portable air conditioner for the nursery. We ended up going with the smaller Delonghi Pinguino because the room itself is pretty small, but it was absolutely necessary. Her room would get ridiculously hot during summer, sometimes reaching 28–30 degrees, and there was just no way she was going to sleep comfortably in that. Definitely more of an investment item, but one I’d repurchase again without hesitation.

And lastly, because I don’t want this post becoming too overwhelming: baby carriers and our pram. We actually didn’t get our pram until around 6 weeks postpartum because I planned on mostly staying home in those early weeks anyway. At first we used a Moby wrap — my husband absolutely hated it, haha — but I honestly didn’t mind it. This time around though, we’re planning on upgrading to the Boba Bliss while they’re tiny to make things a bit easier.

Later on we invested in a Tula carrier and honestly, that thing has been amazing. We have the cotton linen blend version and Bailey still loves it now at 10 months old. As for the pram, she actually didn’t love it in the beginning, but once we switched to the toddler seat around 6 months it completely changed things for her. Now we use it every single time we leave the house.

You genuinely don’t need every baby item under the sun. The products that mattered most to us were the ones that made everyday life feel easier, calmer and more functional during such an overwhelming season of life.

And honestly, that’s something motherhood has taught me in general too. The things that end up mattering most usually aren’t the “perfect” or trendiest things — they’re the things that support you in the middle of sleep deprivation, long days, contact naps, endless feeds and figuring it all out as you go.

Every baby and every family is obviously different, but these were the things that genuinely became part of our everyday rhythm, and the products I’d personally buy again in a heartbeat.

Love,
Charlie
